I am a sucker for sweet and salty snacks. I buy chocolate covered pretzels just to eat regularly, so clearly homemade chocolate covered pretzel rods are a go to treat that I like to make! It’s also something kids AND adults both enjoy. Plus, chocolate covered pretzel rods are easy to make too for any fun occasion!
What Type of Chocolate Do You Use For Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods
I prefer the Bakers Dipping Chocolates that come in microwaveable containers. You can get these on Amazon in a 4 pack (I used 3 to make this batch), but most grocery stores carry this brand too. I do NOT recommend the Wilton brand microwavable containers of dipping chocolates. The chocolate did not melt, instead it burned and turned into a huge clump. I don’t know if it was a bad batch or what, but I do not recommend.
What Ingredients Are Needed for Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods
- Wax Paper
- Baking Sheet
- Tall Drinking Glass
- 2 12oz. Bags of Pretzel Rods
- 4 – 7oz. Bakers Dipping Chocolate Tubs
How to Make Chocolate Covered Pretzels
- If using the Bakers Chocolates I suggested, place the microwavable container in the microwave following instructions on the package (i.e. stirring every 30 seconds).
- Transfer chocolate to tall glass for dipping
- Begin dipping pretzel rods into glass with chocolate. I like using a glass because you can cover more of the pretzel and tilt the glass to get more too.
- Place chocolate dipped pretzel rods on baking sheets lined with wax paper
- Allow chocolate to set on pretzel for a few minutes while you continue dipping additional pretzels
- Start decorating with sprinkles etc. (i.e. for Halloween add googly monster eyes, for Super Bowl use white icing to make football laces)
- Move pretzels to an airtight container and use wax paper to stack in layers
