At the end of last year I joined a book club with some of my girlfriends. The club has been around for about two years now, but I finally made time for it at the end of last year and I’m so glad I have! I rounded up a quick list of books I’ve read lately, plus what books are in my queue to read next. Don’t worry, I won’t give any spoilers to anything! I’m simply sharing if I liked it or didn’t like it.
What I’ve Read Lately
Little Fires Everywhere (4/ 5 Stars)
Little Fires Everywhere has a lot of character development in the very beginning, and it’s a tad confusing to follow. However, pay attention because the character building is important. It’s a great book for book club, lots of various discussion topics! It’s also being made into a series on Hulu and comes out in March 2020.
The Silent Patient (3/5 Stars)
This one was just OK for me. It was somewhat slow to start too, and I just never was able to really get into it. It’s supposedly being made into a movie, perhaps that will better??
The Husband’s Secret (4 / 5 Stars)
The theme of the books I’ve been reading have a lot of character development. You really need to make sure you’re paying attention early on in this one because there are lot of story lines that will remain relevant throughout the book. Another great option for book club – lots of engaging “what would you do” types of questions.
Then She Was Gone (4.5 / 5 Stars)
This book is pretty disturbing, but very well written. There are several heartbreaking moments that are a tad hard to get out of your head. It felt like a true page turner to me (even though I listen on Audible).
Maybe You Should Talk to Someone (3.5 /5 Stars)
I found this book to be insightful and relatable, but I’m only giving it 3.5 stars because parts of it felt REALLY long and drawn out unnecessarily. If you have ever gone to a therapist, or considered going to one this book is worth a read.
What I’m Reading Next
My goal is to try and read 20 books this year…whether or not I get there or not is yet to be determined. You can read a blog post here with 5 helpful tips for reading more! Here’s what is in my queue:
Jessica Simpson – Open Book
I have actually already started this one and I’m all in. Jessica doesn’t hold back and there are so many stories and topics that are easily relatable as a mom.
The Great Believers
This is our book club book for March. Looks like a good read, stay tuned!
The Dutch House
Tom Hanks is the narrator on Audible, enough said.
Stillness is the Key
This one has been recommended to me now by two friends who have very good taste in books.

I need to read so many of these still!! I have a few on my Kindle and Overdrive wishlist. I agree that The Silent Patient was a bit slow but when I got into it, I couldn’t stop reading! It made my Top Ten list last year.
I just finally got on Good Reads so I can start building a list of what I want to read / have read! Ughhh, I know so many ppl that have really liked the Silent Patient too. Maybe I need to listen to it again haha!
