Happy Friday / Mother’s Day Weekend! This weeks Five Friday Favorites post comes from the questions I asked you guys to drop for me recently on IG stories. I always love getting to know more about those that I follow here on the internet, so I hope you enjoy this post! Thanks to those that replied to my question on stories too.
What High School did you go to?
Oh the age old Saint Louis question, “where’d you go to high school?” I’m fairly certain nowhere else in the country, or in the world is this question as popular as it is here in good ol’ Saint Louis. As inquiring minds want to know, I attended Pattonville High School home of the Pirates and graduated in 2001 (go ahead and do that math). 🙂
Best advice for going from 1 kid to 2 kids?
Wine! Haha, just kidding, kind of. I think the biggest adjustment for me was time management. With one child, you start to really get the hang of things and for the most part it’s fairly easy going / smooth sailing. Then the second one enters the picture and you sort of feel like any free moment you did have before is completely gone. Because (in our case) Layla dropped her nap on weekends basically right as Henry was born. So even when he would be napping, she wouldn’t be so I didn’t get a break.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. In those first few weeks of having two kids, I made a point to take Layla out of the house and do something one on one with just her once a week. I would leave Henry with a grandparent, and I think it helped to ease the transition on both of us. If you don’t have family near by, pay for a sitter for a quick hour and go to the library or the park. It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate. That one on one time with you and your oldest will be worth the money.
How are you liking working from home?
I am loving it for the most part for obvious reasons! I love having the flexibility to take a barre or OT class whenever it is convenient for me. I like being able to hit up the grocery store during the day and not rushing there at 5:15 when I leave an office. I love being able to pick my kids up early from daycare on Friday’s (that has become our thing) and go to the park or do something else fun. The hardest part so far has been making the best use of my time during the days and breaking out my time across all projects accordingly. I’m only 2.5 months into this new routine so I keep telling myself I still need a little grace.
From a blogging standpoint, I love having more time during the weekdays to meet up with other bloggers and take photos, or have a working session with another blogger versus trying to cram this stuff in on the weekends. Blogging is a round the clock job though (more on that in a later post). I have had so many things on a to do list since I launched Emmy Lou Styles, and it is nice to finally feel like I’m crossing things off the list. But there is still so much more I want to do and I am so happy that I have the opportunity to continue growing my business.
From a freelancer / consultant standpoint, I am so happy to still have the opportunity to work on digital / ecommerce projects for small businesses. So far I’ve had the chance to work with an interior decorator in building her presence on the web, to growing awareness around an all natural dog treat, and helping a friend get ready to launch her nutritional therapy biz! I can’t wait to see what else comes my way! Shameless plug, if you need any help in growing your online presence, shoot me an email, I might be able to help!

Fave places to eat in STL?
I am by no means a foodie, but Saint Louis has some REALLY great restaurants. I love Katie’s Pizza and we are going there for dinner on Mother’s Day. It’s a great spot for a girls night, date night, lunch – just about any reason is a reason for Katie’s. The Lemon Strozapretti is the BEST! Annie Gunn’s is amazing for special celebrations / occasions. If you’re looking to have pasta On The Hill, I suggest Cunetto’s. And for brunch, The Clover and the Bee is AMAZING. The Pearl Sugar Waffle is my go to with a side of the maple glazed bacon!
The Clover and the Bee has the CUTEST wallpaper too!
Fave place you’ve ever traveled?
If you would’ve asked me this question a year ago, I would’ve said Paris. But then I traveled to Rome last fall and absolutely fell in love. The history, the quaint little streets, the food, the architecture, the shopping, it truly is the most amazing place I’ve ever been. Be sure to check out my post on the
9 Things to See and Do in Rome.
