5 Friday Favorites: A little of this, a little of that

TGIF, am I right?!  I’m back with round 2 of my 5 Friday Favorites!  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

One:  Friday Thoughts

Not going to dwell (if you saw my IG stories this week then you know), but I dealt with some nastiness in a professional Facebook group related to blogging.  I let some negative comments get to me.  Bottom line, we all just need to remember that people on the internet are humans too.  If you don’t have something nice to say, then don’t say it. Two:  How to have a cookie cake at home

If you don’t own a cast iron skillet, let me share with you why you may want to get one.  My husband loves kitchen gadgets and he cooks with this thing all of the time.  There really are so many different recipes you can use with one of these. They do take a certain amount of maintenance to keep them in good condition, but totally worth it.  One of our favorite things to make are big chocolate chip skillet cookies.  I mean who doesn’t love cookie cake?!  His recipe that he follows is pretty simple, but you could easily modify for specific dietary needs/restrictions.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 C Sugar
  • 3/4 C Butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 C semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 C flour
  • 1 egg

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Preheat oven to 350
  • Combine butter and sugar in standing mixer / bowl
  • Stir in egg, vanilla, baking soda, salt and flour.
  • Add chips
  • Transfer to 12″ skillet and smooth
  • Place cast iron into oven and bake 18-20 min
  • ENJOY!

Three:  New undies from Target

Ok not an easy transition from cookies to underwear, but that’s what I’m doing.  Target has a new line of lingerie called Auden.  I specifically stocked up on underwear… there are a ton of different cuts and styles so I’m sure there’s something for everyone.  Give it a look if you’re in the market for some updates!

Four:  Kids Bathroom Details

As I was sitting in the kids bathroom the other night during bath time it dawned on me to share this cute little space of theirs.  I love the fun accessories that I found at Target.  They are really vibrant and perfect if you have a boy and a girl.

Their vanity is a little piece I redid several years ago.  It’s an old vintage dresser that I painted and then we (i.e. Steve) cut the top off of and we added a slab of granite.  It’s still one of my fave pieces in our whole house after several years!

Five: How I’m attempting to get rid of sun damage

I had my 2nd IPL (intense pulse light) photo facial this past week.  This facial uses a laser to target pigment producing cells below the skin. I invested in this procedure because it helps reduce the appearance of sun spots/damage.  The procedure itself isn’t terrible, but it’s also not a walk in the park.  After all it is a powerful laser.  But typically what will happen is your specialist will apply numbing cream to your face (as shown below).  You will wear glasses to protect your eyes during the process too.  The laser is a bit jarring…feels like an intense snap on the face but it’s not unbearable. After the procedure you apply ice packs for the first hour to avoid any swelling.  The numbness will start to wear off.  That night your face sort of just feels like you have a mild sunburn.

Over the course of the next 5-7 days you then experience the pigmentation rise to the surface and become more noticeable prior to it sort of flaking off like coffee grounds.  There really is no downtime, but I would suggest doing it on a Wednesday as day 4 is typically the most noticeable (so you could have the weekend to recover before returning to work etc).

I hope to do a full blog post on this procedure at some point, but in the meantime you can follow along on my IG stories to see the process (and it’s always saved to my highlights too).  Always consult with a professional before under going a procedure like this.  It’s not right for everyone, but can help with things like sun damage.
