If you’re like me and need some additional options for your summer wardrobe, let me introduce you to these cropped flare jeans!  I can’t even tell you the last time I shopped this brand, but a coworker recently had a similar pair on at work and convinced me I needed a pair.  My husband is totally NOT a fan of these, but what does he know?!  A couple of things to keep in mind when choosing a pair of cropped flare jeans:

  • A good length hits just about right above the ankle.
  • A frayed hem provides the perfect amount of distressing.
  • Tuck your shirt in to show off a high waist jean.
  • Mules with a cropped flare provide a chic look.

I’m pretty sure “plain white tee” could be found in multiple places across my site if you were to do a search.  What can I say, you just cannot go wrong!  It’s definitely a summer staple, click here to read my post on this! Since I’m wearing a pair of high waisted cropped flare jeans, I decided to tie this tee in a little knot in back to show off the waist.  A simple block heel is always a great option with this style of jean as well!  This look is perfect for running a few errands.

This bodysuit (comes in 4 colors, under $10) is a great option for flare jeans.  A fitted tucked in shirt accentuates the high waist. I love pairing these flares with some mules because it pulls the outfit together for a chic look.  This would be a great option for date night!

I love this option for a day in the office.  You could tuck the collard shirt in, or tie in a front knot like I have here.  It’s casual, but still pulled together for the office and again allows you to show off the high waist.

Unless you’re living under a rock, I’m sure you have now heard about the Nordstrom Sale. I recently headed up to my local store and did a massive try on session for you in the dressing room.  Several of the items I had my eye on were not in store, and I’m currently waiting for all of my goodies to arrive, so stay tuned for more updates! This is a great time to stock up on fall and winter pieces! Read on for my top 10 (ok, 11) Nordstrom Anniversary Picks!

The Nordstrom sale has no shortage of sweaters for you to fill your closet with this fall.  I tried on a couple (including cardigans), but this was my fave and ultimately came home with me.  It comes in a few other colors, but I’m loving this vibrant pink for the gray days of winter ahead.

If you’re looking to save some money on a nice pair of jeans, this is the sale to do just that.  I have this pair (in a different color that I purchased earlier this year), and they are so fun!  It’s nice to be able to change things up from the normal every day high waisted skinny jeans I usually wear.

A black moto jacket is something you will have and wear year after year.  I love this one because its 2 for the price of 1.  The hood is removable which gives it a slightly dressier feel, or you can leave the hood on for a more relaxed look.

I also ordered this black cropped puffer jacket in two sizes so I can see which fits the best.  I’m waiting for it to arrive, but I have a feeling I’m going to love it!  It also comes in an olive green color.  I prefer jackets like this to be a little more fitted – stay tuned!

These sunnies are a great price and look great on all face shapes!  I don’t have this exact color frame (mine are more brown), but I wear them everyday and I’ve had for over a year!

I am still waiting for the arrival of this one, but I just know it’s going to be fabulous!  It’s very similar to the popular Free People version, but half the price!  It comes in three colors too!

I saw these tan booties in the catalog when it first dropped and they were the number 1 must have on my list!  They do not disappoint and they fit true to size!  They come in 4 colors too!

My short Hunter rain boots are an absolute staple!  I had the tall Hunter rain boots for about 8 years and recently sold those for this short pair.  I’m 5’3″ and the short style is a much better option for someone my height.  They are less clunky too!

I am waiting on this exact pair below to arrive still, but I own a pair of black high waist Zella leggings already and they are the BEST!  They are called the “live in” legging for a reason ladies!  zella high waist leggings

Cute workout gear means I’ll work out more right?!  These tanks are super lightweight and I love that they are longer in back and shorter in the front!

The one item that I have bought in the last two Nordstrom Sales are new bras!  Let’s face it, it’s something we need, but don’t always love buying.  This t-shirt bra is the softest bra I own now, and it fits true to size!

Friday Faves – Edition 2.0: Chic Caps

Chic Caps final

Welcome to the 2nd Edition of Friday Faves here on Emmy Lou Styles!  Today I’m talking all things baseball caps.  Let’s face it, sometimes we just don’t have the time or energy to go all out and fix our hair, put our make up on and venture into the world.  Luckily for days like those you can throw on a cool cap like these that I’ve rounded up for you below. A cap doesn’t have to signal that you’re sloppy – especially if you’re wearing one of these. There is a style for everyone, different fabrics, different logos, different prints.  The baseball cap trend isn’t just for the men in your lives anymore.  I am certain you can find one that suits you and your style.  Here are a few to get you started!

Happy Shopping!

Emmy Lou

1.)  The Airport code hat, by Aviate is perfect for representing your city.  They come in an array of colors, and are $35.  This is a weekend staple in my wardrobe.

2.)  I can’t avoid sharing a leopard print cap!  This would look great paired with an all black outfit (jeans and a tee; yoga pants and a hoodie)…you get the idea.  H&M $10

3.)  This blush suede number from Nordstrom Rack is so good.  This has also made it’s way into my rotation because it is a great way to add an accessory to an otherwise plain outfit (think plain black t-shirt dress + this hat).  Nordstrom Rack, $14

4.)  Throwing this camo one in because it’s really a print that never goes out of style and would look great with a plain white tee + jeans.

5.)  You absolutely can’t go wrong with a plain black cap.  ANYONE can pull this off.  It really needs no explanation.  🙂

6.)  Anyone going to Disneyworld soon?  If so, how about this cute Mickey hat that doesn’t scream “I’m a mom wearing Mickey Mouse”.

7.)  Fall temps are upon us and that means cute flannels, plaids and buffalo print.  This buffalo print cap is perfect for cooler temps and visiting the pumpkin patches 🙂

Friday Faves – Edition 1: The Mule

The Mule is the perfect shoe to take you into fall and beyond.  As a working mom of two, the mule is the perfect option to throw on and go.  It’s a style that can be casually worn at work or sassed up a bit for date night.  I’ll be wearing mine all fall long with jeans + dresses.  It doesn’t take too much searching to find some fabulous options, but I’ve rounded up my five faves (I couldn’t resist the Sam Edelman, Lewellyn in the middle for myself), follow me on Instagram so you can see how I style these all season long!

1.)  I purchased these in the Cognac color and I LOVE them. I tend to wear brown shoes more than black, but these do come in a classic black leather version. I love the subtle stud detail on these too! 👌🏻

2.)  The Gianni Bini Brewsten mules from Dillard’s comes in three colors.  The tassel detail is perfect, and they are under $100!

Screen Shot 2017-09-06 at 8.54.32 PM

3.)  As I always say, leopard print is most definitely a color.  The March Leopard Print Mule from ASOS is the perfect statement mule and under $30! 🙌🏼

4.)  The Adeinia Mule by ALDO is a classic looking mule that you will be able to wear season after season.

5.)  If metallics are your thing, this silver mule (comes in black as well) with buckle detail from Target adds a bit of elegance to your style.  These are under $30 too!

Welcome to Emmy Lou Styles!

Thanks for stopping by my little closet of the Internet and taking a moment to read my FIRST POST!!!  My name is Emily (middle name = Louise) . . .”Emmy Lou” to some of those closest to me. Emmy Lou Styles is a vision I’ve had brewing for awhile now.  I have regularly followed several blogs for many years and it has been a lot of fun, not to mention helpful with fashion and things like parenting.  I have always enjoyed styling and planning my outfits.  I am a passionate shopper that seeks out exactly what I’m looking for, I get giddy over great bargains, and I love to share all of this with others.  I may or may not have a shoe collection (yes, I do need 15 different pairs of brown booties, and no they do not look alike).  I think style is when you are able to piece together different items from different retailers to pull together something you love and feel fabulous in.  I believe leopard print IS a color.

I look forward to bringing you consistent content via Instagram, as well as more in depth stories and such right here.

In the meantime, feel free to learn a little more about me here.
