How to style a leopard coat

Ladies, I got the cutest leopard coat for Christmas (I’d had my eye on it forever) and thanks to mi madre, she pulled through and got it on sale for me.  Here are a few ways you can style a leopard coat that you might not have thought to try!  You don’t need this exact leopard coat, there are tons of cute leopard pieces that would work with these styles too.  The possibilities are endless!  I will link this coat throughout my post + a few additional leopard items as well!

3 Stylish Ways to Style your Leopard Coat:

Leopard Coat and Chambray

You can easily style leopard with chambray because of the simplicity of it.  You likely have a chambray shirt in your closet already that you could easily pop this leopard coat over (or whatever other leopard cardi or jacket you may have) and then you have a chic outfit in a pinch!

Another way to style a leopard coat is to pop it on over a plain white tee.  Another staple that I bet you have in your closet!  When wearing leopard, it’s usually safest to play it simple since the print truly speaks for itself.

Lastly, you could easily style a leopard coat over a plain black dress (which you likely already own as well)!  Please excuse my horribly pale legs that blend in with the snow (yikes), but this is just to give you an idea on how to snazz up your black dress.  This could even work for NYE (with some self tanner)!

Favorite Winter Things Q and A

I thought I would take a break from the standard types of posts I normally do here and get a little more personal with everyone.  A fellow Saint Louis blogger, Sarah from www.sarahoutandabout.com tagged me in this fun Winter Things Q and A session!  So without further adieu, here are some of my Winter Favorites!

What’s your favorite Holiday Tradition?

Now that we have two little ones, my fave traditions are definitely focused around them.  In the last couple of years, I have  made a point to build and decorate a gingerbread house with my daughter.  It’s a fun way to let her creativity come through and she loves eating the candy of course.  I can’t wait for my son to be a little older so he can start in on the tradition as well.

What’s your favorite winter lip treatment?

I love Smith’s Rosebud Salve.  It smells pretty and it tames chapped winter lips.

What’s your winter favorite scent?

I love anything that is a “fir” scent and smells just like a freshly cut xmas tree!  I always have this kind of candle burning in the month of December.  I love the Winter scent from Bath and Body Works!

What’s your favorite winter accessory?

This one is easy, a hat of course!  It keeps you warm and it’s an easy way to dress up an outfit (+ cover up a bad hair day). floppy wool hat

What is your favorite holiday movie?

Christmas Vacation is an obvious pick, but I also really love the classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.  The kids love watching it and I love watching with them.  This year I took my daughter to see it at the fabulous Fox Theatre here in Saint Louis!

What is your favorite Christmas Song?

Obviously I like Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas is You” but another true fave of mine is Rockin Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee.  I just love upbeat and happy Christmas songs!

Do you prefer to travel or be home over the holidays?

I prefer to be home over the holidays.  All of our family is local and we are very fortunate in that regard.

What is your favorite winter skin must have?

My skin is always super dry this time of year so I cannot live without my L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream. It smells so fresh!  This one is the perfect size to stash in your purse so you have it on the go.

What’s your favorite winter hair product?

I use Pureology’s Colour Fanatic Multi Tasking Hair Beautifier on the reg. It contains 21 unique benefits that prime, protect, and perfect color treated hair.  You just spray it on before blow drying and comb through.

What’s your favorite winter activity?

I love going with the fam to this cute little tree lot by our house and picking out the perfect tree!  It’s not a tree farm but the owners of this little lot are so nice and the kids love going.  They get a Christmas tree coloring book each year too.

What’s your winter beauty product must?

I love using the Pixi by Petra Glow Mist!  You can find this at Target and you just spray it on after you’ve done your make up. It gives you a nice natural glow.  So pretty.

Snow?  Love it or hate it?

I like it when I don’t have to go anywhere in it and I can admire it inside in my pajamas!

What is on your holiday wish list?

This amazing faux fur trim parka from Loft!

What is your favorite holiday treat?

Oh man, too many to count! I love sea salt chocolate caramels!

Shopping – last min or finish it before December?

I usually can get a fair amount done before December, but somehow I always end up running around like a crazy person right before the big event!

Top 3 Festive Holiday Outfits

top 3 festive holiday outfits featured by top Missouri fashion blogger, Emmy Lou Styles: image of a blonde woman wearing a red velvet skirt and black turtleneck

Hey girls!  I’m back after our memorable Disneyworld trip and starting to get back into a routine!  I can’t believe Christmas is in a week!

Today I’m sharing three festive holiday outfits that you could wear for Christmas Eve, Christmas, or any other holiday gathering you may have in the next week.  You don’t need these exact pieces because you may already have similar things in your own closet and you just need a simple reminder on how to style them.  But if you are in need of something new, don’t worry, I have linked what you see here (+ some similar items too). Scroll down to check out all 3 festive holiday outfits!

3 Festive Holiday Outfits Perfect for the Season

A Plaid Tartan Shirt

This festive holiday outfit is a perfect casual option.  The classic red tartan flannel screams Christmas in red and green. Bonus, it’s currently on sale for under $20 and it’s a shirt that is timeless.  It pairs easily with any jeans that you already own (just use caution if wearing ripped jeans around older family members and be prepared for all of the “can’t you afford an entire pair of jeans” jokes).  Throw on your favorite mules or booties and you are holiday ready!  This shirt also comes in a toddler size, so you can even twin with your mini too!

A Velvet Midi Skirt

In addition to the red flannel shown above, velvet anything creates the perfect festive holiday outfit.  This skirt is a rose color midi length from Clad and Cloth…unfortunately you can only get this online so you probably won’t receive in time for the holidays, but have no fear I am linking a similar option below!  Midi skirts look great with fitted tops tucked into them.  You can throw on a nice pair of heels or a patterned bootie (both options shown below).

A Red Party Dress

Lastly, a red dress is the perfect option for a festive holiday outfit! This one isn’t exactly a bright Christmas red (the color is actually called neon orange but I assure you it’s NOT neon) more of a reddish / orange.  I will be honest, when I saw this one on the hanger I wasn’t sure about it, and even after putting it on I still wasn’t sure.  But the power of social media is something, because you guys LOVED this on my stories and it swayed me to get it.  It’s a cute dress that can be styled with booties or heels and can even be worn into the spring with some strappy sandals.  There aren’t many sizes left online, but I was in my local H&M this weekend and they had a few sizes still left AND it’s only $20 in store!

Nordstrom Dressing Room Diary

As you may or may not know, I work full time as an ecommerce marketing specialist so my lunch breaks are about the only time I can make it to the mall ALONE.  This week’s dressing room diaries / lunch time try on sesh is brought to you from Nordstrom.  The purpose of this try on session was to scope out some comfy, casual tops that could be worn to work, on the weekend, or for traveling.

First up, the Madewell Whisper Cotton V’Neck Pocket Tee.  These are the softest tee shirts and they come in several colors and sizes XXS – XL so there is a color and size for everyone.  I am wearing an XS for reference.  I love to tie these in a little knot too and wear them with high waisted jeans.

Next up in this Nordstrom dressing room diary session is the B.P. Funnel Neck Tunic.  I have on an XS here.  This would be so cute with some moto leggings for a super casual look OR with some ripped skinnies.  It’s slightly longer in back which is nice for the leggings option.

This cute B.P. Striped Peplum Tee Shirt is so soft!  It comes in three striped versions and two solid colors.  I am wearing an XS for reference in the black and white stripe.  This is perfect to throw on with jeans and flats OR you can dress it up with some booties.

Who’s loving or has tried this cropped sweatshirt look?  I tried on two different brands for reference (Leith and B.P.) and I’m not sure how I feel.  I think I’m leaning towards no for me personally. . . I feel a little bit like a toddler in these.  I like the sleeves, but something about the material and the boxiness is just not for me.  If I had to choose one, I would pick the Leith version.

I will close out this Nordstrom dressing room diary with this plaid beauty!  It’s the B.P. Plaid Ruffle Hem Top.  The colors are festive and perfect for all of your upcoming holiday activities.  The back detail is so pretty too!

Hello cute tall black boots.  I’m convinced I can’t do the OTK trend so if you feel the same way, give these a try.  They are tall without being TOO tall.
