Fall is one of the most popular seasons for weddings. It can be somewhat challenging when choosing what to wear to a fall wedding depending on where you live because the weather tends to be hit or miss (hello Indian Summer here in the Midwest right now). I’ve broken this guide down into categories to get you thinking about the type of dress (or jumpsuit) you may want. I’ve shared my faves below!
So velvet is a big deal this fall. Shoes, dresses, tops, you name it, there is a velvet piece for everyone! It’s soft and cozy, and it is the perfect fabric for fall and winter. This amazing wrap dress by Leith is at Nordstrom and it is the most amazing shade of rose pink I’ve ever seen. This is my fave, and I need to find somewhere to wear this beauty so I can buy it up! Pair this with your favorite strappy nude heels.
Nordstrom // $75
Another great option for fall weddings and events is lace. This sleeveless black number from ASOS is fabulous. It’s not your typical version of a lace dress and I think that’s why I like it. The bottom detail of the dress is the best. This would look great paired with some nude heels (it has a champagne colored underlay). In case you haven’t shopped ASOS before, I tend to wear my true size when buying from there. They also offer a quick quiz you can take for most items which will tell you the size that you likely need. Their shipping / return policy is amazing too (free returns)!
ASOS // $72
There are a ton of great floral options in jewel tones that would be perfect for a fall wedding. I came across this one on Shopbop while browsing their sale that runs through 9/29, making this dress under $70! I’m all about the little details, and the neck tie + ruffles on this one is simply perfect.
Shopbop // $60 (with code EOTS17)
LBD(Little Black Dress)
The classic little black dress is a can’t go wrong option. You can dress up a simple LBD with a great statement necklace or shoes. OR you can snazz up your LBD choice and go with something that speaks for itself without needing many accessories at all such as this Gianni Bini one from Dillards. This is definitely a dress you could keep in your wardrobe for years to come.
Dillards // $119
A newer, bolder option for fall weddings is the jumpsuit. I think the key to pulling this look off for your next event is to not go too bold since a jumpsuit itself is already a bit bold. A solid color with limited extras is the best choice for this option. I found this one at Banana and it would be perfect for a wedding or you could even wear it to work with a blazer too. Bonus, it’s on sale right now.
Tis’ the season for pumpkin spice everything, apple picking, and family photos (cringe)! Fall is a great time of year to have family pics taken because the weather isn’t too hot or too cold, and the changing leaves make for the best backdrop. But with these beautiful pics comes a lot of panic around what to wear. . . and in your job description as mom, it is your responsibility to perfectly plan outfits for your whole fam. Yay for you! 😉 I recently met up with my good friend Liz, Owner of Liz Olson Photography to talk about all things style for fall photos. We have come up with a foolproof guide (including two color palette options) for you to reference when choosing outfits. The goal is not to spend a fortune on new clothes for everyone, but instead use this guide and relate it to pieces that your family might already own. Hopefully you will only have to fill in with a few new items here and there. Old Navy is an obvious choice for outfitting the family because it really is a one stop shop. Most of the clothes you will see in this post are from Old Navy this year or last year. Let’s get started!
STEP 1: Mom should choose her outfit first, and then build the family around it.
Pick a shirt that is a solid color and not too clingy.
Choose your fave pair of jeans – dark blue or black work best, but most importantly pick something that you feel comfortable and confident in. Avoid dresses and skirts as they are hard to kneel and sit in.
A great pair of booties or flats (maybe a fun pattern if it fits).
Add an accessory such as a statement necklace or fun printed scarf.
Incorporate a layer…a vest, blazer, or light jacket tend to work well.
Now I know this guide can’t magically grant you perfect cooperation from your kiddos on picture day, but if you’re in the St. Louis area Liz can take care of that part for you! She has three kiddos of her own under the age of eight and truly has the magic touch for capturing beautiful, priceless pics. Go check her out!
Happy Friday everyone! Today I’m sharing my top picks for step hem jeans. You may have also heard terms like “asymmetric hem” or “uneven hem” when referring to this style. Different retailers refer to these in different ways. I recently purchased my first pair of asymmetric hem jeans from Zara and so far I’m loving them! The price was right too ($40)! These are great for the early fall months because you can wear flats that show off the fun hem, but then once it’s full blown boot season you can still wear these tucked into your boots/booties too! I did a little browsing for you and rounded up a few other step hem jean styles just for you!
The temps are starting to cool down (kind of), except it was 90 degrees again here this weekend. The fall equinox according to the calendar will arrive this week so I’m here to tell you how you can transition from summer to fall with a piece I’m sure you already have in your closet – A black t-shirt dress. The key to looking like you’re ready for pumpkin patches, apple picking, and everything in between is to choose the correct shoes and to layer. I’ve styled my black t-shirt dress three different ways to give you some inspiration with your own pieces!
Look #1: (The Fashionista)
I’m referring to the look above as The Fashionista because I think adding in a black leather moto jacket really sasses things up a notch. Adding in a long necklace, and throwing on a pair of perforated booties pulls the look together and keeps you warm for any cool temps that might be headed your way for a night on the town. 😉
Look #2: (The Classic)
A denim jacket is a classic piece that never goes out of style and looks good with almost anything. These cognac colored mules also have a timeless look and feel to them. I wouldn’t have necessarily thought to pair these with a dress, but I think it works! This look could work for a casual day in the office, but also transition to dinner with friends.
Look #3: (The Mom-a-nista)
Let’s be honest, if you’re a mom you’re busy and you value comfort. Even if you’re not a mom, you’re busy and you too value comfort! Well, a cotton dress and some trendy blush sneaks are about as comfy as you can get, all while looking like you still know what’s up in current fashion trends (because you do)! This is the perfect errand running, weekend lunching, grocery shopping outfit. you could even throw your jean jacket or leather moto jacket on over this look too!
Welcome to the 2nd Edition of Friday Faves here on Emmy Lou Styles! Today I’m talking all things baseball caps. Let’s face it, sometimes we just don’t have the time or energy to go all out and fix our hair, put our make up on and venture into the world. Luckily for days like those you can throw on a cool cap like these that I’ve rounded up for you below. A cap doesn’t have to signal that you’re sloppy – especially if you’re wearing one of these. There is a style for everyone, different fabrics, different logos, different prints. The baseball cap trend isn’t just for the men in your lives anymore. I am certain you can find one that suits you and your style. Here are a few to get you started!
1.) The Airport code hat, by Aviate is perfect for representing your city. They come in an array of colors, and are $35. This is a weekend staple in my wardrobe.
2.) I can’t avoid sharing a leopard print cap! This would look great paired with an all black outfit (jeans and a tee; yoga pants and a hoodie)…you get the idea. H&M $10
3.) This blush suede number from Nordstrom Rack is so good. This has also made it’s way into my rotation because it is a great way to add an accessory to an otherwise plain outfit (think plain black t-shirt dress + this hat). Nordstrom Rack, $14
4.) Throwing this camo one in because it’s really a print that never goes out of style and would look great with a plain white tee + jeans.
5.) You absolutely can’t go wrong with a plain black cap. ANYONE can pull this off. It really needs no explanation. 🙂
6.) Anyone going to Disneyworld soon? If so, how about this cute Mickey hat that doesn’t scream “I’m a mom wearing Mickey Mouse”.
7.) Fall temps are upon us and that means cute flannels, plaids and buffalo print. This buffalo print cap is perfect for cooler temps and visiting the pumpkin patches 🙂
8.) Wool + (faux) leather for the win! This Treasure and Bond cap is the perfect accessory for the fall months ahead.
9.) Last but certainly not least, a denim baseball cap! This is super cute and would look great year round.
